Ayahuasca: Amazonian Drink of the Gods

Updated: May 19, 2023

Ayahuasca is a powerful psychoactive brew made from the ayahuasca vine (Banisteriopsis caapi) and other plant ingredients, such as the leaves of the chacruna plant (Psychotria viridis). It has been used for centuries by indigenous communities in the Amazon basin for spiritual and medicinal purposes, and its use has spread to other parts of the world in recent decades.

The history of ayahuasca use is deeply intertwined with the cultural and spiritual practices of the indigenous peoples of the Amazon. It is believed to have originated among the Shipibo-Conibo, Asháninka, and other indigenous groups in the Amazon basin of Peru, Brazil, and Colombia. These communities are typically guided by shamans, who prepare the brew and administer it to members of their community during religious ceremonies.

Ayahuasca has been used for a variety of purposes in indigenous communities, including healing physical and psychological ailments, communicating with spirits and ancestors, and gaining insights into the natural world. It is often used in conjunction with other traditional practices, such as dieting and fasting, and is considered a powerful tool for personal and spiritual growth.

In recent decades, the use of ayahuasca has spread beyond the Amazon basin and into other parts of the world. This has been driven in part by the growing interest in alternative forms of spirituality and the therapeutic potential of psychedelic substances. Ayahuasca retreats and ceremonies are now offered in many countries around the world, often in a non-traditional context and without the guidance of traditional indigenous shamans.

This globalization of ayahuasca has raised concerns among some indigenous communities, who fear that their traditional knowledge and practices are being appropriated and commercialized. There have also been concerns about the safety and legality of ayahuasca use outside of its traditional context, as well as the potential for exploitation and harm to vulnerable individuals.

Despite these concerns, the use of ayahuasca continues to grow in popularity around the world, with many individuals reporting transformative experiences and healing benefits. As the cultural and traditional use of ayahuasca continues to evolve, it is important to consider the ethical implications of its use and to respect the knowledge and practices of the indigenous communities who have stewarded this powerful plant medicine for centuries. This is why we have trained and work with Master Shaman Qinty.

Master Qinty is a Shaman native to the Amazon's of Tarapoto, Peru. He spent his earlier years traveling and learning master plant medicine healing from other esteemed Master Medicine Healers native to the Amazon jungle. For the last 20 years, Qinty has been blessing, preparing, and serving his medicines by hand, on his family-owned retreat center -where the Ayahuasca grows- in the gorgeous Amazon's of Tarapoto, Peru. Our healers at New Earth Integration have shadowed and trained with Mater Qinty and other Master Healers. Together, we are providing safe, and powerful healing ceremonies that help access and heal the deepest traumas and fears that we have.

One reason for the limited scientific research on natural medicines may be the difficulty in conducting studies on psychedelic substances, or even accessing them. Additionally, there is often a limited financial incentive for pharmaceutical companies to develop drugs based on natural substances that cannot be patented and therefore cannot generate significant profits. It usually takes enough time for public funded studies to prove to a legislative branch itself that a natural substance is safe and effective. This by passes Big Pharma and provides legislature an opportunity to tax a potentially profitable "product". Sadly, in this scenario the deciding factor often isn't wether a plant medicine is safe before it receives support from the system, but wether it will produce a financial benefit for the whole.

On this website, you can learn about natural, Sacred medicines, their forgotten history, how to work with them in meditation, and order your own knowing that you are getting the best quality available. Ayahuasca, like other natural medicines, is strictly limited in its accessibility. One often has to travel to where the plant is naturally growing, or work with their native neighbors in their local areas in order to access the healing ceremonies legally. Our team of trained healers are present to provide personalized and group guided ceremonies. We specialize in helping others understand the healing process through pre and post-integration sessions. This ensures that those who embark on this healing journey are ready and understand what they are partaking in, as it is not as healing ceremony for those who are afraid to look at the shadows of their ego.

It's important to note that the use of ayahuasca carries potential risks and side effects. It should only be used under the guidance of a trained professional in a safe and controlled setting. Overall, shamanic healing ceremonies involving ayahuasca can be powerful tools for spiritual and physical healing, but they should only be undertaken with careful consideration and under the guidance of a well-trained and experienced shaman.
